The Aerobee 170 Rocket

Once called the "Workhorse of the Upper Atmosphere" the Aerobee family of sounding rockets were used to probe outer space. This research rocket was capable of carrying a 250 pound payload to an altitude of 165 miles. Dr. James Van Allen is credited with designing and naming the rocket. It was capable of carrying as many as six experiments at one time. U.S. Navy
